French International Language Examinations
DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française) assesses beginner to intermediate French proficiency in four levels: A1, A2, B1, and B2.
DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) evaluates advanced mastery in two higher levels: C1 and C2, both recognized internationally.
TEF (Test d'Évaluation de Français): Measures proficiency for immigration and professional purposes with sections covering listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
TCF (Test de Connaissance du Français): Assesses French language ability for academic or professional reasons, evaluating comprehension and communication skills.
There are Six Levels from A1 (Beginner) to C2 (Proficient)
Beginner
Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
Elementary
Understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).
Intermediate
Understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
Upper Intermediate
Understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization.
Advanced
Understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and grasp implicit meanings.
Proficient
Express yourself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in more complex situations.
