Burmese spoke by 32 million people as a first language. Burmese is spoken as a second language by another 10 million people, particularly ethnic minorities in Burma and those in neighbouring countries.

MYANMAR OR BURMA?

The official name of the country is the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. In 1989, the name was changed from Burma to Myanmar. Both names are derived from the majority ethnic group, the Bamar – Myanmar being the formal, literary term, and Burma the colloquial, everyday term.

BURMESE LANGUAGE SOUND SYSTEM

Like all Sino-Tibetan languages, Burmese has a simple syllable structure consisting of an initial consonant followed by a vowel with an associated tone. There are no final consonants.

TONES

Burmese is a tonal language. This means that all syllables have prosodic features that are an integral part of their pronunciation and that affect word meaning. Prosodic contrasts involve not only pitch, but also phonation, intensity (loudness), duration, and vowel quality. According to one analysis, Burmese has 4 tones

Langma School of Languages follows the different levels ranging from A1 for beginner to C2 at the highest. The learners of Burmese language varies from students, businessmen, employees who plan to shift their residence to Burma.
