Chinese Proficiency Test (Medical) MCT
The Medical Chinese Test(MCT), known as “医学汉语水平考试” Yīxué hànyǔ shuǐpíng kǎoshì, is a standardized test conducted to assess the competency of medical students and practitioners. Foreigners studying in China are required to undertake medical Chinese language classes and have an HSK 4 or above to graduate. MCT mainly targets medical students studying abroad and healthcare workers who use Chinese as a second language in their clinical practice.
MBBS students in China are
expected to take the HSK test or MCT as mandated by their respective
universities. Many hospitals use MCT scores to recruit non-Chinese speakers,
and medical schools use them to award credits and offer internship and
apprenticeship opportunities.
The MCT is a three-tiered assessment, divided into listening, reading, and writing, with a total score of 300 points. The test scores determine the competency levels. The vocabulary requirements, competency description, and corresponding scores for each level are detailed below:
